As part of the across the borders festival 2011, the designer network designmetropole aachen becomes the mobile Westwall. The silhouette of the famous protective wall still lives on today as a strong symbol in the consciousness of the people in our border region.
A contemporary witness made of concrete that still makes the violence of the Second World War palpable today. What does the Siegfried Line really mean today? Although we hardly have any visible borders left in Europe, in many places they still exist in our minds. We are confronting these borders! Together with artist and designer friends from Holland and Belgium, we shoulder the Westwall and walk through the city in choreographed formations. WALKING WESTWALL erects mobile borders in shopping streets, confronts lived history and defies the myth of insurmountability.
A subversive performance of designmetropole aachen.
