A COLORFUL ARTWORK IN THE WALLED CITY OF LAHORE, PAKISTAN
At the invitation of the WCLA – Walled City of Lahore Authority, I was invited to design a colorful street art artwork for the entrance area of the Walled City in Lahore. As part of a participatory art project in October and November 2024, students and citizens of the city were invited to paint an area of approx. 1800 ft² together with me.
Within 6 weeks of intensive work, a place where many citizens said they felt uncomfortable – especially at night – was transformed from a “no-go area” to a popular photo motif and Instagram hotspot.
This project is the first part of my art project series COLOURS OF LOVE in which I want to give neglected places in different cities around the world more color and new energy. In these difficult times, our world needs more humanity and love – cheerful colors help to put a smile on people’s faces and make their day a little brighter. Involving local residents fosters a strong sense of identification and helps to create a community.
The cultural exchange that arises during the work is particularly close to my heart. This often leads not only to creative ideas, but also to genuine friendships. This artwork was realized with a lot of love and support from a wonderful team of students and citizens from Lahore: Abdullah, Ahsan, Arfeen, Maham, Mahrukh, Maryam, Murwat, Raheem, Ramsha, Sabir, Tatheer, Uzma and Waheed
A cooperation project with the Walled City Lahore Authority, supported by Brighto Paints.
